Put Down The Candy Canes & Get On The Bench - Impact Play

Yes, it’s the Christmas season, but let’s put the candy canes down and allow me to pick one that is a little more painful.

Welcome to “Dommes from around the world”, where I will share some of the most fabulous Mistresses, I have had the privilege of engaging with. I, as a Dominatrix, find the BDSM community here in New Zealand to be completely different when I compare it to other countries, I feel my readers will benefit from this insight, so get on your knees, get comfortable and get reading!

Here with me today is Mistress Baton, a well-known and respected disciplinarian from South Africa, whom I instantly fell in love with for many reasons. Her authenticity and quick-witted sense of humour is a delight to witness. She has a welcoming attitude to others within the community and a wicked dedication to caning, with her skill set being second to none!

The dynamics between her and her submissives is such a treat to watch, I find myself wickedly grinning or in fits of laughter watching her brats, try, but fail miserably, to wind her up on her ‘X’ (formerly Twitter) account. This transparent D/s dynamic is rare in the public eye, so I highly recommend you follow along to get a glimpse into lifestyle submission. I can’t showcase my own publicly with our country being so small, my good boys fear being noticed.

Now, let’s peek into the world of Mistress Baton.

I want to keep this light-hearted while being informative, so let’s start with some advice for those new to impact-play before I have some fun with these questions. I watched an impressive tutorial on how to hit your target safely without overreaching and how to avoid hitting parts of the body that can damage your submissive, which Mistress Baton ever so kindly shared with the kink community.

Mistress Baton

"Thank you for introducing me to a wider New Zealand audience and your international fans, Mistress V and thank you for your kind words. I, too, love seeing your posts and pics and interacting with you on BDSM social media".

"Even though South Africa is a much bigger country than New Zealand, I think we are similar in that both our countries are cut off from the wider international BDSM community because of our geographical locations. We’re so far South and therefore relatively isolated in kink".

Other than safety, what is the one piece of advice you would offer anyone starting to dabble in impact play?

For both Tops and bottoms:

Take it slow.

More is not more.

(Sorry that’s two pieces of advice. I’d say the most important one is that more is not more).

What are your favourite implements to use and why? Feel free to talk about the blood splatter!

In order of preference:

  1. Canes

  2. Sjamboks

  3. Belts & straps

The sjambok, can you briefly tell New Zealanders what this implement is and why you enjoy using it?

It is a traditionally African implement which has been used here for centuries as protection against snakes in the long grass of the Savannah grasslands and to herd cattle. It is also used for protection and punishment in informal courts.

It is traditionally made from leather. Modern materials like rubber and plastic also make good sjamboks. It is a rigid implement - the specific curing and manufacturing process causes the leather to become more hard and rigid than supple.

It is a niche but popular implement in the BDSM corporal punishment realm. It delivers intense pain. The marks are mostly bruises rather than cuts like the cane. But it depends on the material the sjambok is made from.

I enjoy using it because it takes skill to wield properly, because it is very heavy compared to a cane. As a sadist, I also enjoy the unique pain it delivers to recipients.

To my knowledge, you have a license to distribute your sjamboks, how would someone purchase one of these fine implements?

I have been selling hippo hide sjamboks for seven years and six months ago I exported the first hippo hide sjambok to New Zealand. I supply all necessary certificates and permits. It is a legal leather trade and I can be contacted at leathercuriosouthafrica@proton.me if anyone would like to order one.

What is it about caning that brings you so much joy? Yes, I have seen the pleasure written all over your face, I know a true sadist when I see one.

I love the dramatic aspects of caning. The exclamations of pain from the recipient. The bravery of the recipient to receive such a painful implement. The bruising, the marks and in some cases, the blood splatter! I also love the technical difficulty of wielding canes. It is a very flexible, light and thin implement which needs to hit a relatively small target (the bum). I love constantly training to go harder and more accurate.

How did you discover this aspect of yourself?

I have been mesmerised since childhood by depictions of corporal punishment in media, for example seeing Indiana Jones using his whips in films. When I was in school, I loved seeing boys beaten in school. There are other, darker aspects which also triggered my sadism, like childhood physical abuse. But it’s not necessary to go into those details. The most important thing is that my own sadism is only directed towards enthusiastically consenting adult humans. It is a positive aspect of my psyche, and I love being able to live out this side of myself in the sane, safe and consensual environment of a BDSM session.

What is the most unexpected item you’ve incorporated into a session?

Cricket bat.

Hockey stick.

Fishing rod.

What is the funniest or most awkward thing a submissive has said or done during a session?

I have no problem with swearing or swear words in vanilla life. But I like using it as an excuse to impose penalty strokes of the cane, when recipients swear. It’s funny to hear how they swallow a swear word or change the word in order not to get a penalty stroke.

There was also a person who brought a series of Bible-related DVD’s to a session, who gave it to me as a gift and tried to convert me to Christianity (I’m not religious) while on the caning bench.

Have you ever used your skill set to win an argument or negotiation outside sessions?

No. In the vanilla world, people (myself included) perceive dominance as a negative character trait and I try to curb my bossiness in the vanilla world.

If you could choose any historical figure to be your submissive, who would it be and why?

King Leopold II of Belgium (19th century) to prevent him from colonising The Congo and committing violence and atrocities in Africa. Actually, any of the despicable colonisers or slavers of centuries past.

What is the most unusual place you have ever conducted a session?

I cannot disclose that, unfortunately. But I’ve done lots of outdoor sessions where the risk of being seen is high.

Being a music lover, I must ask, “What would be the theme song for Mistress Baton?”

My favourite band is the Aggrotech band, Alien Vampires and my favourite songs of theirs are “Fuck Off And Die”, “To Die With You” and “Dark Energy”. Any of those three could be my theme song.

OK, readers, that’s enough treats for you today, I know you want to see more of Mistress Baton in action, so remain on your knees and crawl over to one of her sites to see more.
